Financial accountability
ACCTS is a charter member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability. Founded in 1979 by Billy Graham, the ECFA serves as a monitoring agency to ensure that non-profit Christian ministries maintain the highest ethical standards. Voluntary ECFA membership requires full financial disclosure and the exercise of sound fund-raising practices.
What is ECFA?
Founded in 1979, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability is comprised of more than 700 charitable, religious, and educational organizations which are qualified for tax-exempt, nonprofit status. ECFA's steadfast purpose is to enunciate, maintain, and manifest a code of financial accountability, ethics, and reporting which is consistent with enlightened and responsible Christian faith and practice.
What Does ECFA Do For Its Members?
ECFA assists its member organizations in making appropriate public disclosure of their financial practices and accomplishments.
By following the ECFA standards and displaying the ECFA member seal, organizations can materially enhance their credibility and potential support from present and prospective donors.
Additionally, through its publications and continuing support services, ECFA keeps its member organizations informed of current legislative, postal, administrative and promotional matters. Located in the Washington D.C. area, ECFA also interprets the interests of its member organizations to responsible government and private organizations.
What Are The Requirements For Membership?
To be eligible for membership in ECFA, an organization must be nonprofit and have a clear and strong commitment to evangelical Christianity. Potential members must agree to abide by the ECFA Standards of Responsible Stewardship.
Applications for membership are reviewed by the ECFA Board, and only qualifying ministries are accepted.
